Regional Transportation Referendum

07.05.2012

On July 31, 2012, residents across the 10-county Atlanta region including Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties, as well as the City of Atlanta have the opportunity to vote on a referendum that would fund $8.5 billion in transportation improvements through a regional one percent sales tax.

This referendum is called the Transportation Investment Act (TIA) and potentially impacts communities on a local level as well as the region. In the City of Norcross, a list of local transportation-related projects has been proposed by Norcross City Council and city staff members, projects which would be partially funded by the TIA if it is passed. Up for consideration is landscaping, lighting and multi-use trails on Mitchell Road from Buford Hwy to Brookhollow Parkway, as well as a bike route along Holcomb Bridge Road and curb, gutter and safety improvements along North Peachtree Street.
