The Police Department's Role Police
The Norcross Police Department is a progressive community-oriented law enforcement agency that has achieved international accreditation by CALEA, and state certification by the State of Georgia Certification Program. The department has an authorized strength of 43 sworn officers and 15 full-time civilian employees to serve the safety needs of its citizens and visitors.

Its police jurisdiction covers an area of 6.1 square miles with a citizen population of approximately 15,000 and a daytime population of approximately 40,000.

Services Provided
The Norcross Police Department works diligently to decrease crime rates with a focus on increased patrols and the implementation of a new Crime Suppression Unit, Ironsky video surveillance, and other modern technology.
Higher quality police services are some of the advantages of living within the City of Norcross. The city employs more than twice as many police officers as its county, Gwinnett, per 1,000 inhabitants.

While the City of Norcross employs 2.9 police officers per 1,000 inhabitants, Gwinnett County employs only 1.2. Additionally, the city Police Department works closely with its residents and fosters enhanced relations within the Norcross business community. The Police Department recently implemented the Norcross Business Watch, a free community service that creates a strategic partnership between the police and local business community. The program teaches valuable crime prevention techniques and strategies for pro-actively deterring crime.

There are over forty sworn officers covering 6.1 Norcross square miles of industrial, commercial, and residential properties. Chief of Police Bill Grogan is a Norcross native and he spent his career as a Uniform Patrol Officer, DUI Enforcement Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain before being appointed Norcross’ Chief of Police in 2016. Chief Grogan has become an integral part of the force and city. He is appropriately flanked by two outstanding captains who are both responsible for the fluid operation of the unit.

Something everyone should know is that among numerous recognitions, the City of Norcross Police Department has also received CALEA certification. This is an accreditation of professionalism, integrity, credibility, knowledge, accountability, experience, and so on. What this means to the City of Norcross is that our police department ranked within the top 1% of all 5% of professional law enforcement agencies within the United States. This is a very big deal.
