If you were not cited with a violation that requires a mandatory appearance, you can pay prior to your assigned court date. To inquire about the status of your citation and the regular fine amount assigned to that violation, you can call our office at 770-448-2173. The fine amounts are set by the judge and are based on surveys of fine amounts held by local municipalities. Payment for citations must be received prior to the assigned court date.

When court is in session, any matters not pertaining to cases currently assigned to that court date will have to be addressed after court sessions are completed for that day.

Continuances

All parties including attorneys may have one (1) courtesy reset. All parties including attorneys must contact the Court at least ten (10) days prior to their court date to request a continuance. Municipal Court personnel may only reset your court date one time; if subsequent continuance is desired, you must request it of the Judge or the Solicitor in person on your scheduled court date. While every effort is made to accommodate your request, it is not guaranteed that it will be granted. It is your responsibility to follow-up with the court on your request.

If you do not have your citation available when you call, please have the name and date of birth of the person cited, and an approximation of where the traffic stop occurred. Our office can also search for citations by license number if one was provided to the officer at the time of the traffic stop. Please wait at least 7 to 10 business days before inquiring about your ticket due to necessary processing of the citation.

Bond Information
A principal bond paid on your behalf can be applied to your sentence at your discretion. If a bond was paid on your behalf in the form of a security bond, the security will need to be present on the assigned court date and time with valid ID if they would like to apply the money they paid to your sentence. If the security is not present on the assigned court date, they will receive a refund check within 30 days after the adjudication of the case via mail.

The check will be sent to the address given at the time the bond paperwork was signed. The defendant will then be expected to pay for the citation(s) in full after being sentenced, or they will be placed on probation. If the security turns in bondsman off bond paperwork, the refund will be issued within 30 days after the adjudication of the case via mail. If the judge refunds any part of a principal or security bond, the refund will be issued within 30 days after the adjudication of the case via mail.

If a bond was paid on your behalf in the form of a surety bond, or if you were released on your own recognizance (O/R bond), you will be expected to appear in court on your court date to address your charges. No actual funds were received by this court. You will need to contact your bondsman about what they require to recoup any funds.

Jurisdiction
Please note that our jurisdiction is limited to approximately 5.4 square miles of Norcross. If your citation was not issued in the city limits of Norcross by the Norcross Police department, we do not have access to information about your traffic citation.

Your citation will have Norcross Police Department written near the top of the citation if it was issued by our police department. If your citation was written by another agency, such as the Gwinnett County Police, you will need to contact that agency for information about your ticket.

Important Information for Attorneys
A defendant can only be represented by an attorney in good standing with the Georgia state bar at your arraignment or trial.

Rule 7.1 of the uniform rules of Municipal Courts of the State of Georgia states:
No attorney shall appear in his or her representative capacity before a municipal court until he or she has entered an appearance by filing a signed entry of appearance form or by filing a signed pleading in a pending action. In order for this court to be in compliance with the uniform rules of the Municipal Courts of the State of Georgia, and to handle all cases with efficiency and professionalism, it is requested that all attorneys file an entry of appearance no later than one week before the scheduled court date.

If the entry has not been received by our office prior to your assigned court date, your case will not be heard on the scheduled date. The case will then be rescheduled to allow time of the entry of appearance to be filed. Per the uniform rules of the Municipal Courts of the State of Georgia, attorneys who are deemed to have a conflict are "expected to give written notice such that it will be received at least seven days prior to the date of conflict."
