Community Center Assistant
POSITION TITLE: COMMUNITY CENTER ASSISTANT
EXEMPTION STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
JOB FAMILY: Public Utilities, Works and Parks and Recreation

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY: Performs a variety of duties in implementing the plans, programs, events and services of the Department.

SUPERVISES:  Seasonal workers. Maintenance/community service workers and volunteers
COST CENTER #: Public Works and Utilities
SUPERVISED BY:  Parks and Recreation Superintendent

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs a variety of duties in implementing the plans, programs, events and services of the Department. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the department’s Director and/or Superintendents. Work is reviewed through reports and direct observations

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise seasonal workers, maintenance/community service workers, and volunteers.

• Performs normal duties in area in which assigned such as athletics, maintenance, special events and programs.

• Assist staff during the various program activities offered by the department.

• Supervise parks and facilities during operating hours.

• Assist in supervising seasonal personnel such as summer camp, after school, maintenance, laborers, etc.

• Assist staff during special events.

• As directed by the Superintendent of Parks and Recreation

JOB SCOPE

To promote the City of Norcross in a positive manner for the success of programs conducted through the Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center.

COMMUNICATIONS/CUSTOMER CONTACT

• Meets and greets visitors to these venues.

COMPETENCIES/SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING PREFERRED:

Education and Experience:

• Possess a valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Possess good oral and written communication skills.

• Be a self starter.

• Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

• Ability to efficiently plan, implement and follow through.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of the principles, rules, equipment, tools, and techniques of the activity or event or other specialties involved.

• Ability to deal efficiently with groups and maintain discipline.

• Ability to develop and maintain good sportsmanship and good relations with the participants in the community.

• Ability to organize, lead and instruct people of various age groups in specific activities.

• Ability to deal tactfully, efficiently and equitably with people.

• Skills in oral and written communications.

Equipment and Applications

• Computer skills in Word, Excel, and Power Point.
