Bucky Johnson has been Mayor of Norcross since 2008.  Mayor Johnson is currently the Chairman of the Metro Atlanta Mayors Association.  Bucky represents the cities of Gwinnett County on the board of the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC).  He also serves on the Executive Board of the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) and a member of the GMA Legislative Committee, the Gwinnett Tech Foundation and Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful Advisory Board.  In addition, he is on the Board of the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Mayor Johnson is a graduate of the 2009 Class of Leadership Gwinnett and the 2009 Atlanta Regional Commission's Leadership Institute.  In January of 2010 he received the Carl Vinson Institute's Certificate of Recognition for city elected officials. 

In 2012, he received a Public Service Award from the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and he was named Gwinnett County Man of the Year for 2011 by Gwinnett Magazine.  Mayor Johnson received the Outstanding Public Service and Leadership Award from the Latin American Association and the Leadership Award of Excellence for his work in Economic Development by Partnership Gwinnett.  He has participated in the Principal for a Day Program, Gwinnett Chamber Strategic Leadership trips and ARC LINK trips.

A native of Atlanta, Bucky served as Director of Bands and Head of the Music Department at Georgia Tech until he retired in 2002. He was also the Founder and Director of the 300-member Atlanta Olympic Band from 1992-1996.

Bucky currently works part-time in the music ministry at Oak Grove United Methodist Church.  He and his wife, Janet, own and produce the Southern Star Music Festival in Atlanta and are part owners of the Southern Star Festival of Champions in Panama City.
