FIELD OPERATIONS COMMANDER    

 Captain Clay Thompson is the Field Operations Commander for the Norcross Police Department.  Captain Thompson oversees the day to day operations of the three (3) Uniforma Patrol Shifts, Traffic Enforcement Unit, K-9 Unit, COPS Unit and the Special Operations Unit.

     The Uniform Patrol Shifts, Days, Evenings and Mornings, are responsible for the initial response to calls for service, traffic accident investigations, traffic enforcement, and uniform patrolling of the city.  Each of the Patrol Shift is superivsed by a Shift Lieutenant, a Shift Sergeant and a Corporal.  Each patrol shift has an average of four (4) additional uniform police officers assigned to each shift.

     The Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) is a dedicated traffic enforcement unit, which is responsbile for the enforcement of motor vehicles offense and the investigatin of traffic accidents within the City of Norcross.  The TEU operates specially marked patrol units and motorcycles.  Members of the TEU have received advanced training in motor vehicle laws and accident investigations.  The Traffic Enforcement Unit is supervised by a Lieutenant, who reports directly to Captain Thompson.

     Criminal and/ or suspicious activity can be reported by either calling immediately to the Norcross Police Department Communications at 770-448-2111 of by leaving information on the Norcross Police Department TIPS line at 770-448-6457 or email tips@norcrosspd.com.

     Community support and involvement is vital to the suppression and solving of criminal activity.

  

      SUPPORT SERVICES COMMANDER

     Captain Brian Harr is the Support Services Commander for the City of Norcross Police Department.

    The Support Services Division is comprised of five (5) sections, Investigations, Communications, Records and Evidence and Property Control.

     The Investigations Section is under the supervision of a Sergeant, who reports directly to the Support Operations Commander.  The section's primary responsibility are:

  •       Investigative follow ups in reported incidents within the City of Norcross.
  •       Background investigations for police department applicants
  •       Crime scene investigations of serious felony cases

     The Communications Section of the Norcross Police Department is responsible for both emergency and non emergency radio and telephone communications with police personnel and the community.  The section is supervised by a Communications Supervisor, who reports directly to the Administrative Lieutenant.  The Communications Section is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

     The Records Section is responsbile for maintaining all reports that are generated by the members of the Norcross Police Department.

       COMMUNICATIONS

     John Edwards is Communications Supervisor the the Communitications Center for the City of Norcross Police Department.

     The Communications Center is responsbile for reeiving calls for service the the Norcross Police Department.  If you have an emergency in the city limits of Norcross, call 770-448-2111.

     The Communications Center is manned 24 hours a day 365 days a year.  The center is also responsible for Criminal Background Checks and release of vehicles that have been impounded by the Norcross Police Department.

     CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS

     Criminal backfround checks are conducted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  The cost of the background check is $10.00.  Individuals requesting a criminal background check for themselves must have a valid Government issued identification card.

     IMPOUNDED VEHICLE RELEASE

     Vehicles can be released 24 hours a day at the Norcross Police Depqrtment.  Although the towning companies may not be open 24 hours a day.  Individuals wanting to get a vehicle out of impound must have one of the following valid documents for the vehicle:

  • Title
  • Tag receipt
  • Bill of Sale
  • Insurance card

     The individual that is listed on the document must be present and have a valid government issued identification to get the vehicle out of impound.  In the vent that the individual that is listed on the document cannot be present then a notarized letter from the individual is required.  The letter must state that they are giving their permission to someone to pick up their vehicle.
