Tax, Rate & Fee Update | September 1, 2023
The City of Norcross wishes to inform you about upcoming changes in our fee structure, effective September 1, 2023. The City of Norcross has extended its contract with Waste Management for five years, resulting in adjustments to the proposed fees for certain services. Notably, roll-off customers will now be billed per haul for the entire disposal weight. Please click the links below to view the complete proposed rate schedule.
We understand this adjustment raises questions. For clarification or concerns, please call Administrative Services at 770-448-2122. We appreciate your continued partnership as we improve our waste management services!
*The discounted sanitation fee for seniors is automatically applied to Norcross residents who have been granted a senior homestead exemption from Gwinnett County. The county's exemption application deadline is April 1st of each year. For more information or to apply, visit the Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner website.
Sanitation / Solid Waste
In 1988, Norcross converted from a city operated solid waste collection system to a privately operated system. The city offers refuse collection through a contractual agreement with Waste Management (formerly Advanced Disposal) for both residential and business collection.
Services
Residential garbage collection is done once weekly at the curb. Back door or side yard pickup is provided to residential customers who are disabled. Medical certification is required for this service. Commercial dumpster customers may be serviced from one to six times per week based on the volume of waste generated.
Residential recycling collection is done every week at the curb in specially marked rolling containers with lids. On alternate weeks yard waste is collected from the curb and turned into mulch for beneficial uses, lowering material sent to landfills.
Residential Customers
To start a new residential service or cancel a residential service, please email gga@norcrossga.net.
All requests to service existing residential accounts (missed pickups, scheduling large bulk item pickups or requesting residential cart replacements) may be made via the Request Tracker portal or directly with Waste Management at 678-495-0058. To follow up on previously submitted service requests, log in to the Request Tracker portal to check the status on your request ticket, or you may also email gga@norcrossga.net.
Commercial Customers
Missed commercial pickup requests should be submitted to Waste Management via the Request Tracker or via email to gga@norcrossga.net. (To avoid duplications in charges and scheduling of services, please do not call the residential number listed above.) To follow up on previously submitted service requests, log in to the Request Tracker portal to check the status on your request ticket, or email gga@norcrossga.net.
Recycling:
City of Norcross accepts single stream recycling which allows customers to co-mingle items accepted for recycling in a single container. Please follow guidelines HERE so as not to contaminate recyclables and prevent them from being redirected to the landfill. Residential recycling is picked up every week.
Commercial recycling dumpster customers may be serviced from one to six times per week based on the volume of recycling generated.

Yard Waste:
Yard waste service is every week at curbside. Plastic bags and tree stumps are not expected to be collected. Yard waste includes tree limbs, shrubs, bushes, grass clippings, and leaves. Plastic bags are prohibited. Tree removal by a licensed professional contractor is excluded.
Yard waste service also includes leaf suction service with a vacuum truck once a week through November, December, and January without restrictions or limitations. Outside of these months, yard waste must not be left loose at the curbside.
All yard waste through the city’s program is truly recycled into mulch and not landfilled.
Bulky Items:
Bulk Items are items that are too bulky to fit into the 95 gallon cart. Bulk items must be called in to the city and the contractor will collect the item on your normal scheduled collection day. This is limited to either one bulk household furniture item per week or up to 5 extra bags that will not fit in a trash cart per week, if scheduled at least before 3 p.m. the day prior to a customer’s regularly scheduled pick-up day. Bulk items are household items only and do not include construction and demolition debris or automotive parts.
Bulky items not normally accepted may be scheduled for pick-up by calling 678-495-0058 or online 24/7 through the Request Tracker. Twice yearly Event Recycling provides Solid Waste customers opportunities to dispose of bulky items by taking them to the designated location.
*Bulky metal items can be attempted to be recycled before disposal. Click HERE to contact bulk metal recycling.
Complimentary paper shredding and recycling of electronics is offered semi-annually at designated locations.
To report a problem with sanitation, a missed sanitation pickup, or to schedule large bulk item pickups or cart replacements, residents may contact Waste Management directly at 678-495-0058. Any additional requests should be submitted to Request Tracker.
