Norcross Named Tree City USA

City of Norcross News Posted on February 23, 2026

The City of Norcross has once again been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA, marking the 22nd consecutive year Norcross has earned this national designation for its commitment to urban forestry and environmental stewardship.

The Tree City USA program provides a framework for cities and towns to manage and expand their public tree canopy. To receive this honor, a community must meet four core standards: maintain a tree board or department, adopt a community tree ordinance, invest at least $2 per capita in urban forestry, and observe Arbor Day with an annual celebration.

Norcross continues to meet and exceed these standards through ongoing tree planting, maintenance, and long-term canopy planning efforts that enhance the community’s natural environment and quality of life.

“Trees are one of our most valuable community assets,” said Norcross Mayor Craig Newton. “Earning Tree City USA recognition for 22 consecutive years reflects our long-standing commitment to protecting and growing our tree canopy. These efforts not only beautify our city, but also improve air and water quality, reduce stormwater runoff, and create healthier, more vibrant neighborhoods for our residents.”

Trees play a vital role in urban areas by mitigating the urban heat island effect, improving air quality, filtering water, reducing traffic noise, and supporting mental and physical well-being. Strategic tree placement can also lower energy costs and increase property values, while providing shade and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
